The opportunity    

We are currently seeking a Flood and Drainage Engineer to join the Strategic and Asset Planning team.  Reporting to the Coordinator Strategic and Environmental Planning, the position holder will strategically plan and undertake detailed investigations for flooding and drainage across the Kempsey Shire Local Government Area, and be responsible for emergency management and liaison.

To be successful in this position, you should hold tertiary qualifications in engineering or similar; possess experience developing flood plans and preparation of flood studies; ability to resolve complex drainage matters; and knowledge of Emergency Management concepts.  You should also possess project management and budget management skills, including the ability to prepare grant applications and identify alternative funding opportunities.

Key accountabilities

The tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating planning for flooding within the Shire, including completion of flood and drainage modelling and strategic studies that inform provisions for infrastructure planning
  • Managing the implementation of processes outlined in the NSW Government's Floodplain Development Manual through the completion of Flood Studies and Risk Management Studies and Plans
  • Coordinating Council's Flood Risk Management Technical Group
  • Coordinating the Macleay Valley rural voluntary house raising program
  • Act as Council's appointed Local Emergency Management Officer (LEMO) and chair Local Emergency Management Committee meetings
