The opportunity    

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Process Engineer to join our Water & Sewer team to participate in the planning, operation, maintenance and monitoring of the water supply and waste water treatment facilities and associated assets for the benefit of the Kempsey Shire community.  You will be responsible for the day to day operation and maintenance of Council's water and waste water treatment systems; the provision of water supply distribution and waste water collection; identifying improvements and/or optimisation opportunities; and developing and implementing procedures and controls to manage the risks to the quality of the drinking water supplied to the community.

To be successful in this position, you should possess tertiary qualification in Engineering, Environmental, Science or similar; experience with water, waste water and recycled water treatment plant processes; knowledge of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and the application of risk based management control to ensure the quality and delivery of safe drinking water; and the ability to think strategically based upon an analysis of performance data, asset condition, total life cycle costs and changing external factors.

 Key accountabilities include:

  • Operation of Council's water and waste water assets, in particular headworks and treatment assets
  • Maintaining, improving and optimising the performance of Council's water and waste water treatment systems
  • Managing incidents and interruptions with a view to maintaining customer standards
  • Monitoring and reporting on the operation and performance of the Process Unit to the Manager Water and Sewer
