The opportunity    

The Internal Auditor will assist Council to accomplish organisational objectives by providing a systematic and disciplined approach in evaluating and improving the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance processes; provide professional advice to Council on audit and risk management process improvement; and provide specialist input and guidance on risk management and control and probity issues for projects. 

To be successful in this position, you will have tertiary qualifications in Business Management or Finance, or experience relevant to the role; possess the ability to interpret legislation; and maintain the highest level of ethical conduct and confidentiality.  You will have experience in investigating and analysing complex and unstructured problems, and make presentations to the Internal Audit and Risk Committee. 

Key accountabilities

The tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing an Internal Audit Plan and associated Internal Audit Programs
  • Using various internal audit tools for investigation and analysis of Council's systems, ensuring actions are performed in accordance with requirements
  • Evaluating the adequacy and appropriateness of systems within Council
  • Identifying the causes of unsustainable work practices and systems
